Miss Gertrude Cadwalader hoped her position as the paid companion to Mrs. Davenport would be easy. But as she becomes acquainted with her employer, she realizes the wealthy Mrs. Davenport has a strange tendency to be a bit light-fingered with other people’s trinkets. Gertrude is relieved when Mrs. Davenport decides to have a quiet summer away from the social scene–until the woman changes her mind in order to help a young socialite launch into society.
When Gertrude is caught in the act of trying to return one of the trinkets by Mrs. Sinclair, the mother of shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair, the woman jumps to an unfortunate conclusion. Harrison is determined to mend fences with Miss Cadwalader, but he’s unprepared for the escapades a friendship with her will entail.
I am going to gush about this book. Just be warned. I loved it! Each and every page of it! This book was non-stop humor, fun, and sweet romance from start to finish. This might be my new favorite Turano book. I dearly love A Change of Fortune because its just so good, but this one is right up there with it! First of all I loved that the reader gets to meet up with Asher and Permilla again! They were such a fun couple, but since their story was just a novella I almost felt cheated out of time with them. However, they are back and just as fun and delightful as when they were introduced. In true Turano fashion the opening chapters begin with humor and mishaps to set the story up in the best way. Harrison Sinclair was an adorable, lovable hero. His quirky fashion sense, cluelessness about women, and heart of gold make him perfectly endearing. I loved Gertrude. She was sweet, and funny, and willing to speak her mind, but never came across as rude or bossy. One of my favorite things about this. book was reading the interactions between Asher and Harrison. They seemed to think between the two of them and a stack of romance novels they could better understand women. All sorts of hilarity ensues. I could not stop laughing. Anytime I hear of someone wanting to read a fun romance with humor I suggest a Jen Turano novel and this book was equal to all her other novels. Definitely reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys lighthearted romance or historical romance. I just love any and all Jen Turano books! This book in particular is moving to the top of my faves list! It was just so lovably fun!
